Launching The Au Lac’s Enchanted Legacy Stage Prop & Pattern Design contest

As part of 'The Enchanted Crossbow' musical project, the 'Au Lac’s Enchanted Legacy' Stage Prop & Pattern Design Contest invites students to showcase their artistic talents by bringing to life vibrant colours, intricate motifs, and unique designs.

 

This is also a wonderful opportunity for students to explore the civilisation of Âu Lạc and the legendary tale of 'The Enchanted Crossbow', gaining a deeper appreciation of the nation's rich historical heritage.

 

 

Contest Details: About 'The Enchanted Crossbow' Musical Project

A special collaboration between Victoria School and the Youth Theatre of Vietnam, 'The Enchanted Crossbow' is inspired by the legend of Mị Châu and Trọng Thủy. Drawing from the Âu Lạc civilisation, the musical not only portrays the tragic tale of love and loyalty but also celebrates cultural values and the indomitable spirit of the nation through a grand historical backdrop.

 

1. Objectives:

  • To inspire pride and a deeper understanding of the Âu Lạc civilization among Victoria School students.
  • Encouraging artistic creativity in pattern, set, and costume design for the enchanted crossbow musical.
  • The programme aims to foster artistic creativity in pattern design, set decoration, and costume design for 'The Enchanted Crossbow' musical. It allows students from Grade 1 to Grade 12 to showcase their talents and contribute to a school-wide artistic project.

2. Participants:

  • All students from Grade 1 to Grade 12 within the Victoria School System are eligible to participate.
  • Participants may join individually or in groups of up to five members.

3. Competition content:

Participants may compete in one or multiple of the following categories:

 

a) Pattern design: Decorative patterns inspired by the Âu Lạc civilisation, applicable to props, costumes, and stage settings

 

b) Stage prop design: Sketching or modelling stage settings for the musical production.

 

4. Submission requirements:

 

a) Format:
- Hand-drawn artwork on A3 paper (watercolour, oil paint, coloured pencils, etc. are encouraged)
- Design on fabric, which will be directly used for costume making (acrylic paint required).
- Digital design in PNG/JPG format (minimum size: 2000x2000 px, resolution: 300 ppi) or as a vector/PDF file.

- 3D models or stage set prototypes made from recycled or handmade materials (fabric, paper, etc.).

 

b) Concept description: Each submission must include a written concept description (150–300 words), explaining the design’s meaning and application.

 

5. Timeline: 

  • Launch date: Wednesday, 26 February 2025
  • Submission period: Wednesday, 26 February 2025 – Sunday, 6 March 2025
  • Result announcement: Monday, 10 March 2025 (Tentative)

6. Criteria:

  • Creativity & Artistic Value (30%): Originality of the concept and clear representation of the Âu Lạc spirit.
  • Practical Application (30%): Feasibility of integrating the design into the musical production.
  • Aesthetic & Technical Quality (20%): Visual appeal, craftsmanship, and balanced composition.
  • Expression & Meaning (20%): Clarity in conveying a message through the design.

7. Submission:

 

 

a) Online Submission: Parents and students must register via the form | Registration for participation.

 

Note: Digital file formats must be PNG/JPG/PDF/VECTOR (maximum size: 10MB).

 

b) Offline Submission: Parents and students must first register via the form: Registration for participation. After registration, they must submit their entries to the Homeroom Teacher (HRT). The HRT will collect all submissions and deliver them to the Communications & Events Department on 7 March 2025 at the Head Office.

 

8. Notes:

- All submissions must be original creations by the participants and must not be copied or infringe on any copyrights..

- The organising committee reserves the right to use the submissions for exhibition, promotion, and application in the Enchanted Crossbow musical..

- The judging panel has the authority to disqualify entries that do not meet the criteria or contain inappropriate content. 

 

9. Enforcement terms:

- The organizing committee reserves the right to adjust the schedule and regulations if necessary and will officially notify the contestants.

- The judges' decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

- By participating in the competition, contestants agree to comply with all provisions of these regulations.
