Vietnam’s first-ever student musical to be showcased at DANAFF 2025
The musical play “The Enchanted Crossbow”, produced by Victoria School Education System with artistic sponsorship from the Vietnam Youth Theatre, will officially be performed at the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF 2025) on July 2, 2025. This marks the first time in the history of international film festivals that a school-based musical has been selected to perform as part of the festival’s official programme.
The Enchanted Crossbow” to be performed at the Da Nang Asian Film Festival
Before arriving at DANAFF 2025, “The Enchanted Crossbow” had already delivered two successful performances at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House in April 2025, attracting nearly 1,000 audience members including parents, students, artists, and art lovers. The impressive performances by Victoria School’s student “actors” – along with the production’s investment in set design, choreography, costumes, and contemporary music – received a flood of praise from the audience.
Following this success, Victoria School brings “The Enchanted Crossbow” to the prestigious stage of the Da Nang Asian Film Festival – a major international event that gathers hundreds of films and artists from leading film industries around the world.
A standout performance at the HCMC Opera House in April 2025
The inclusion of a Vietnamese student musical as part of an international festival’s official programme is a significant milestone, opening up new opportunities for elevating school musicals and highlighting the diversity of Vietnam’s arts education – not only in classrooms or through cinema, but also via the expressive form of musical theatre.
“The Enchanted Crossbow” is a carefully staged production, from sets and props to character costumes
This is a large-scale school arts project that Victoria School had nurtured and developed over many months. Rather than retelling history in a traditional narrative, the musical presents the story through a modern theatrical language, combining music, lighting, movement, and emotion to bring audiences closer to the essence of Vietnamese folklore.
The artistic direction and expert mentorship of the production were undertaken by renowned artists, directors, and choreographers from the Vietnam Youth Theatre, such as People’s Artist Lê Ánh Tuyết, People’s Artist Chí Trung, People’s Artist Nguyễn Sĩ Tiến, choreographer Nguyễn Vũ Khánh, singer Nguyễn Trần Trung Quân, and others.

At DANAFF 2025, “The Enchanted Crossbow” will receive additional investment in technical aspects and performance quality. A professional sound and lighting crew will help create a stage experience that is complete in both form and content, aligning with the standards of an international cultural event.
The production brings together over 40 talented students from Victoria School.
